Default Soap Shell Out

I live in Florida, so I love shells. Here, is something cute I do sometimes. Whenever I eat fresh clams or mussels, I save the shell. I use glycerin soap a lot and have little slivers leftover. I take the remnants of a few bars and place them in a tin can. Then I put the tin can in a pan of simmering water to melt. While the soap is melting, I lightly coat the insides of the shells with vegetable oil. As soon as the soap has melted, with an oven mitt I pick up the can. Then pour the melted soaps into the shells. When it has hardened, I jiggle the soap a bit to loosen a charming little soap shell.

What a cute idea! I live in Florida too but have never thought of doing this. We collect lots of those big shells sometime plus some smaller ones. I'm going to have to remember this. Thanks.

Now I like the sound of this little crafty idea. Even if you don't live in Florida you can usually buy those small shells pretty cheap. What a great way to reuse all those small little pieces.

That is a great way to not waste all those little pieces of glycerin soap. I would imagine you could use soap molds also to get a lot of different shapes.

Lucky you! I have never lived anywhere close that we could collect shells but I remember doing it as a child many moons ago. This could be a fun project for the older kids in the house to help with too.

That sounds like a great idea. I never would have thought about doing something like that but I hate wasting those little pieces of soap. I have a few shells that I used to use for molds so now I know what I can do with them.
