Default Spinning Wool

Does anyone else here spin wool? I have a friend with several llamas and she shaves them in the summertime. She gives me the wool and I spin it with a spindle. I love to do it. It's so soothing. Does anyone else spin?

I don't spin wool but I've seen it done. I have blankets and sweaters made of llama wool that I bought years ago when I was in South America. They have been my favorites over the years.

I've always wanted to learn but never had the time. I have one of the old fashioned "walking" spinning wheels that needs some restoring but I've never had it done. I may start spinning this winter when things slow down a bit. There is a sheep farm not far from me that does lessons and I just may do that! I seems like the repetition is so soothing.

I would love to learn how to do this. Hitherehowareu, that is so cool that there is a farm near you that gives lessons. I've never heard of anything like that where I live, but I'm going to ask around anyway. You just never know.

Hello, I am a spinner, too. No fiber is safe from my wheel! I have angora rabbits that sit on my lap and I just pluck the wool and spin it all at once. I have also spun flax, milkweed and my dog's fur.

Oh CountryGirl, that's wonderful! How hard is it to keep angora rabbits? That would be wonderful to have a rabbit to spin from. Do they mind you plucking their fur from them?

Hi, no they don't mind at all. Plucking sounds like such a harsh word, but when it is ready, it comes out as easily as a dog's fur at shedding time, so it doesn't hurt them at all. Some people cut the rabbits fur off, but that causes the sweater (or whatever you make) to shed all over everything.
