Do you like to use antiques and family heirlooms for your decorating scheme? I have several pieces that I use for our home and it's wonderful to feel the memories you have when you use them.
We have some that we use too. It's somehow comforting to see the things that were in our parent's and grandparent's houses. I love to sit on the sofa my grandmother had and I had recovered. I can imagine her sitting where I sit and crocheting.
Oh we certainly have a few old family heirlooms lying around, just not in the house. Our house is very modern looking so the problem is that aniqtue pieces just don't match. It's a real shame as I would love to have some of them adorning our home.
I have some of my mother's vases. They don't exactly match with the over-all theme and color of the living room, but I do keep them in memory of my mom. I just can't put them away.
We have many heirloom pieces. Some of them belong in a museum, but we're not ready to part with them. I'd rather have an antique than a new piece, unless it's a quilt or upholstery. Then we go for new with an antique feel.
I love looking at antiques, like window shopping but honestly I know very little about any of them. I just like the character that certain pieces bring to the table and it makes me appreciate all the "new cool stuff" we have now.
