Default covering dark paint

Does anyone have any suggestions for particular brands or types of paint to get? The place I just moved into has a bright red wall. I'd like to paint it yellow. What should I put on so that the red doesn't show through?

Kilz always seems to work for me. I would talk to the associates at a paint or home store and see if they have any suggestions for products that may have come out in the last couple of years. Kilz has always been dependable but be sure you check with experts at the store to be sure there's not something more durable for that red paint.

Kilz absolutely and probably two coats to make sure it doesn't bleed through later. Try sanding and sweeping thw wall before you put the first coat of kilz on and then after the second coat you should have a nice white wall instead of red. I just had to do this for a dark green bathroom.

My boyfriend is a professional painter. He said to use kilz but make sure it is oil based (there are different kinds) or the paint will just bleed right through. Then after the kiltz, you should prime it. Try a coat of paint after that and then decide if you need 2 coats. He said you probably will but sometimes you can get lucky.

Kilz is a good brand, but I think you could get something cheaper. The main thing here is the primer. You will need to apply a couple layers of primer onto the walls prior to re-painting them.
