Default Doorway curtains

I hate these. A friend of mine has them and while she has plenty of room to actually install doors to close an extra room off, she stuck curtains up instead. Why do people do this? She has the money to buy doors, shes loaded but instead all company gets to battle through the curtains while she entertains.

We put heavy curtains up in the winter. Our problem is that the living room is just off the entry way and is odd shaped. So no matter what way we make the door swing it is in the way. So we use a curtain to contain heat in the winter.

jump-We do the same. I don't like curtains for doorways unless it's for this reason. I would much rather have a good door than beads or curtains. We do put a heavy curtain over the doorway out of our kitchen that leads to our hallway to the bathroom and bedrooms. It helps us to contain the heat in the kitchen and living room during the day.
