Default Faux Painting

I've seen pictures of faux painted accent walls that look very good. The sponge method is the one I think looks best. Has anyone ever done this? Is it complicated?

A friend of mine did one room with the rag, one with some plastic bags and one with the sponge and I think they all look great. She did say that it was fairly easy to do. I hope that helps!

It's really easy to do but you really need one of the special rollers that do it. It is much easier to do if you can find one. It is still a messy job but it does look good afterward. You do want to use varying hues of the same color though. If you use two contrasting colors it just looks weird. A pale grey with a darker grey base looks really good for example.

Two hues of the same color sounds like it would look great! Surely there's contrasting colors that would look good, too, though. If I decided to try contrasting colors, how would I pick them out? Has anyone ever used contrasting colors that looked good together?

Would a hardware store or place like Home Depot or Lowe's have the rollers? Would it depend on the effect you wanted whether the roller is needed? It sounds interesting using plastic bags.

From what I hear it takes a good bit of time if you want it done correctly. I have never tried myself but if I had some good instructions who knows, I might be able to make it work with my decor.
