| Kids decorating their rooms Do you allow your children to decorate their own rooms? I think children are imaginative and sometimes unpredictable. They may decorate their rooms better than you do. Moreover, it can increase their sense of belonging. |

| I ask their opinions on what they would like their rooms to look like but if I let them decorate it themselves their rooms wood look like a rainbow threw up on it. My oldest son said he wanted his walls painted like the ocean, fish and all and my youngest said he wants a green room and not just any green but a neon green. |

| Let them own a spot I have three girls in one room. I had them make a quilted wall hanging. It was a great project and let them express themselves and own that piece of the room. Shouldn't be any different (maybe not quilted?) for boys, you think? |

| I was allowed to have input in my room when I was about 12 or 13. My mother decided to redecorate to get rid of the kiddie theme of it so she asked what I wanted. With my ideas and her guidance it turned out to be a good project.
I think kids should have a say, but most of them shouldn't be allowed to have free rein. |

| I totally agree... I have to say that I do have to have some input though. My daughter went through a stage that she wanted 1 wall black and one neon green. I did not let her do the black wall. Too dark and gloomy for me. |

| When it comes time to paint and re-do the kids rooms, I always let them pick a theme, and have input on the paint colors. Then I give them a small budget for accessories like pillows, a comfy chair, a lamp, maybe a picture. They really have a good time with it. |

| I don't know how she did it, but my younger sister got my parents to let her paint her bedroom walls red, not a dull red, but RED. She's 10 years younger than me, so I was in college when she did it.
I think it's fine for kids to have a say, but parents should have the final say. Sometimes kid's decor can get a little far out. |

| Absolutely, within reason. It's their room, part of their unique personality. The time when I would step in is if something were to be overly dangerous or somehow inappropriate, but colors and style -- that's their choice. |

| At the age my kids are, 7 and 9, I let them have some input but I wouldn't let them totally decorate their room by themselves. When I feel they are old enough and it isn't too off the wall then yes I will. |
