I hate the walls in my living room. I really do not think the color yellow belongs on walls. I want to paint them but my spouse likes the color. How do you settle these kinds of debates?

That's hard. How firm is your spouse about liking the color? Is there any chance that he or she might change to your view? I think yellow can look good in a bedroom, but there are much better colors for living rooms. Maybe you could suggest a different color for the living room and using the yellow in another room.

If your spouse really likes yellow, what you can probably do is to have lots of yellow in your living room since the walls will be painted with another color. I suppose there are decorative pieces and living room accessories that come in yellow or have some yellow on them. Just paint the walls with another color that goes with yellow.

What is his or her reasoning for liking the yellow? Does he or she just not want to repaint or does your spouse really enjoy the color? A light yellow is a good mood enhancer, but it can quickly fade into something ugly.

I'm not fond of yellow either. But what what Housepedia suggests is a good compromise. Find out his/her reason for not wanting to change it and work from there.
