Default Painting Floors

A weird thing that I noticed was that my husbands friend was redoing his carpet but before he did that he painted his subflooring. I asked him why he did that and he said it was to seal the floor and to block any germs or odors. I've never heard of doing this have you?

I haven't heard about this too and I think the paint will make the floor smelly. Carpets will still acquire dust and germs no matter what you do underneath it.

I've never heard of that for that reason. I've known people who painted concrete, but they did not put anything on top of it.

It makes sense. The paint creates a barrier if the subflooring is made of a porous material. This will cut down on things growing underneath the floor if a spill occurs.

That's really strange. I'm not sure how true that is, but if it is then I'm going to start doing it that way. There are so many neat tricks that you can learn about your home. This is why I'm not yet ready to own a home. I want to know everything first!

Actually I think it sounds like a good idea. If you put waterproofing on the subfloor you will prevent a lot of problems. We live in a very wet area so it's almost a given for us to do so when we build a house. I would rather have it there and not need it as to not have it there and need it.
