Every year I like to hang garland around our family room. It was always such a pain to make sure the spacing was right. Finally last year I just decided to attach permanent hooks up near the ceiling moldings where the garland will go. The hooks can hardly be noticed and it's so easy to decorate that I actually hang Easter and Halloween garland there too.
That's a great idea. Garlands are a nice way to decorate. They don't take long to change and it's a fairly inexpensive way to celebrate smaller holidays and seasons.
I know what you mean. I leave my christmas lights up around the house all year round so I don't ever have to deal with them again. I'm kidding! My father actually does that though. He's in his sixties so he doesn't get up on the roof anymore. The lights I helped him put up 5 years ago are still there and working. He only takes down the lights that are low to the ground now.
We have small hooks in our mantle for the stockings and they stay there all year long. It's a lot easier to just leave them, plus it's not good to keep hammering in hooks year after year. I think you've got the right idea, Freecycle
