Default in a small room

How many colors on the walls are too many? We have a smaller room upstairs and its the kind that has been built into a room from a portion of the attic. I was thinking from the chair rail down one color, top of the room another, 1 accent wall + the trim. Is that too many?

You know I have always been one of those that says if it is something that "You" like and can live with it, then go for it. You can get so many that say totally different things but in the end it is you who has to look at it all the time.

I think that if you were to use different shades of the same color, that three colors would not be too much. I don't think I would do a high contrast scheme though.

Sounds like a good plan to me. When you get it done and if you don't like it, then you can just repaint the areas that you don't like or feel comfortable with.

The more I think about it I might just stick with two colors. The room is odd shaped to start with so too much might be a tad overwhelming. I still have time to make up my mind, painting in the house will not happen for another month or so (and thankfully we are hiring the work out).

I agree that three colors may be a bit much, unless it's done just right. Usually when I do an accent wall, the other walls are all one color, not two.

The idea of an accent wall would be great if we just had a big enough wall to start with. I figure downstairs in the main common rooms we will have a few but upstairs its kind of loft like and crowded.
