I never though just stopping and taking the time to look at what I buy would make such a difference. I am surprised at some of the prices I have been paying for years now. Even the price difference between things made here and elsewhere is shocking.
I am very frugal. For example, I have to buy a headset for a project I am doing. A friend of mine sent me a link to one and I researched and found one that was ten dollars cheaper!
Yeah, even just a quick research can make a difference and save you a lot. I ever looked for a yoga ebook which cost around $14 at Barneys and Noble, Ebook.com and other ebook stores, and got the paper back for $10 on Amazon.
One place I have been more vigilant is the grocery store. If you look at the prices on the shelves most of the time they will break it down to cost per lowest unit of measurement, for example an ounce. You will be surprised, bigger is not always cheaper.
Bigger is rarely cheaper! I have noticed that a lot at Walmart that if you compare the price of a big can to two small cans frequently you get more product for less money by buying the two small cans.
I too have found that the only time it helps to buy larger sizes is if you are at a warehouse club like BJ's or Sam's club and even then it doesn't work out cheaper for everything.
