Default budget in cash only

How many do this? When you have a debit card there is always a chance you will spend more because you know you "have more" to spend. If you swap to spending cash only you are limited yourself in what you spend. We have done this for the last two months and saved almost four hundred dollars.

That is a very good way to help save. If you go into a store with only so much "cash" to spend, then that is what you actually spend. Now if you are using a card you will have a tendency to spend a little more. Makes sense if you think about it.

Wow, no I don't do this. I find the opposite really. When I have cash, I spend it. When I don't have cash, I think twice about the purchase. I'm not good with cash - I swear it burns a hole in my pocket.

Livvie, I am the same way. I spend cash way more freely than I spend using my debit card. however, I don't see how you could spend more using a debit card because it is attached to a bank account and you don't have unlimited funds there.

In my case, it doesn't really make a big difference whether I use cash or my debit card. When I go to the store or to the mall, I set a limit on how much I should spend. It works for me most of the time.

I do not. But I've known many who do. I'm sending the wife with a cash budget when she goes out of town. She has a little more problem budgeting with credit cards. I've gotten decent budgeting with rewards credit cards so I get gift cards for birthday presents through them.

We try to do this as much as possible. I was reading somewhere the other day about how many people have no cash in their posession that they could access if necessary. If for some reason the power is out or a bank holiday is declared how exactly do they plan to get the things they need?

@homemaker. I suggest that everyone keep some cash on hand at their home. If nothing else for emergencies. Most home insurance policies will cover up to $1000. But check your policy. Not saying you need to carry that much either, but whatever you do have at home, make sure you are under the covered amount.

I have been telling my mom that for years! She won't keep a good stock of food on hand, or cash. If something happens they (and many others I am sure) will just be out of luck!

I don't like keeping my money in the bank. I know you can't live entirely without banks these days but I prefer to handle my own money myself.
