Default Budgeting

Do you keep a strict budget for your home or do you just wing it. I would love to have a budget but my husband just doesn't want to abide by it. It's pointless unless both partners are committed to the plan.

I have to keep a budget. Right now I have a lot going on, short term, that is wiping me out financially so that I have to be careful what I spend.

You're absolutely right, Allie. If both spouses aren't on board with the budget it won't work. Somebody will blow it. I don't currently have that problem (thank God), but I have in the past in previous relationships.

What I do now is deposit a set amount in the checking account every week to cover the bills and groceries and then the rest goes into a savings account. Sometimes we have to dip into the savings in order to make the checking deposit (if my husband's check is short or whatever), but at least we have a little cushion to pull from.

I agree with with what has been said. You simply cannot stick to a budget plan if one of them is not willing to commit to it. In my case , me and my girlfriend have maintained a joint account. What we do is we normally make an estimate of how much money we will normally be spending every month and we then place it into this joint account. That way we have a better control over our expenses.
