Default Buying Name Brands?

I have noticed a lot of difference in my grocery budget since I stopped buying name brand items and instead buying store brand or generic items. More often than not, the generic or brand name items are made, bottled, canned, produced by the same companies that make the name brand. It's a bargain if you like them, if you don't, don't buy that one again. I've found a lot of things we like too.

I've bought like that for some time now. I just can't afford to buy all name brands and I've been buying generic or off brands for quite some time. It has really saved me some money and I can buy more food.

I'm the same way - I have started shopping at the discount grocery stores more often. I will try out their brands and then if I don't like it or if someone in the family is not crazy over it - we switch back.

There are very few off brands that I can think of that I would not like. I can give you a tidbit though, the Mac & Cheese that Kraft Velveeta makes, if you get it at the grocery store its about 4-5 bucks per box, at the $ store it is cheaper but it does not taste the same.

I've tried very few items that I didn't like. The only thing that I have to have in the brand name is Heinz ketchup. I don't know why, but nothing else tastes like it.

I have switched to many store brand items too. I can't say that they are all the same but they aren't terrible. I won't buy generic cereal and I won't buy generic soups.

My family actually prefers the store brand to the name brand now. I guess since we have bought store brands for so long that is just what we are used to. We bought name brand peanut butter the other day because it was a better deal than the store brand and nobody liked it!

There are a few things that I refuse to buy generic (toilet paper, yogurt, granola bars, pasta, cereal, bread), but for the rest of it, I go with generic. Gotta save those pennies.
