I have had the same cable boxes for the last 7 years. This past month, my cable company raised the rental fee for each box $1 (I have 3 boxes). It doesn't seem fair that I'm paying more each month for boxes that are 7 years old with old technology. The cable boxes don't even have an HDMI port. Should I call and request updated boxes? I'm kind of annoyed! I can understand raising my monthly fee because you're adding channels, but these boxes are only get more out-of-date by the day.

I would certainly call and have them replaced - why pay more for something that is not new age? That would stink and to be honest it's not something I ever thought of. I'm going to check my prices too - If I'm paying more they will hear about it.

That is one of the reasons I hate cable. They raise their rates and justify it by saying that they are adding channels. Have you seen the channels they add? Golf, The Game Show Network, a 6th or 7th ESPN....give me a break! Add channels that MOST people will be interested in. I have more sports channels than there are sports to show on them.

I would tell them to come switch out the boxes before you pay, or you can go with some new place like ATT's Uverse. We use it and its awesome, one box works for two TV's.

Oh wow! One box works for 2 TV's?. I'm switching! Do they charge as if using 2 boxes?

TheJames, when I had my cable installed they hooked us up with old boxes right off the bat! We had so much trouble we called and complained. They sent the cable guy out, and he said 'Oh, these are the old boxes", so he put in an order for the updated ones. Unbelievable! I would call them, for sure, and not pay until they bring new boxes.
