If, like me, you live near the coast, you could do worse than collect shellfish to eat. Mussels, cockles, winkles, clams, scallops, razors and even limpets are all good to eat and can be picked up for free. When I lived in Scotland I even used to collect winkles by the sackful and sell them!

I wish I lived by the sea. I love seafood and getting it free would be great. Around here, we can pick wild berries in the spring and go fishing. Otherwise, the only cheap foods I can think of are Ramen Noodles and off-brand Macaroni and Cheese.

That's called living off the land where I come from, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd rather depend on nature for my food anyway, it's more dependable.
