I have thought about this for some time. Our kids have gotten to the stage where they really don't like things that we buy for them any more. I have asked them for a list but I don't seem to be getting them and the time for getting the prime shot at getting popular presents is passing. Do you think it would be horrible of me to just give my kids gift cards with a certain amount of money on them? Would this just be too impersonal?

How old are your kids? I cannot imagine not getting anything but gift cards for my kids. If your kids are younger, how could you not know what they wanted?

If your kids are grown up and out of the house, I see nothing wrong with that. If they still live at home, I see a lot wrong with that. You have to have some idea what to get them.

I think that it's fine to get a gift card for a child if that is what they want. I always get a gift card for my sister and then we go shopping together and make a day of it. I do think it's strange that you have no idea what your kids want but some kids like gift cards. I could see if you have a kid that likes books, you would just get them a card and let them pick out the books themselves.

I wouldn't give them just a gift card, but one as part of their presents is fine. Unless, as someone else said they are older and out of the house then a gift card might be better.
