Default Craig's List Safety

I recently adopted a puppy from someone on Craig's List. I would only agree to meet the person in a local store parking lot that had a lot of traffic and took a friend with me. I thought it was risky enough taking an unknown dog without exposing myself to any other risk. Does anyone else get things from Craig's List and how do you handle it?

I used to sell in ebay and I met buyers to give the item to them a couple of times. I think meeting in a busy public place in daylight hours is about as safe as you'll get. Taking a friend was a good idea, too.

I have gone to people's houses to pick up things like furniture that I got from Craigslist. I just always take somebody with me and I talk on the phone first. I know it's not the safest thing in the world but I'm willing to take my chances. I only do it under certain circumstances though.

I always take someone with me during this type of situations and meet the person in a place where there are a lot of people...Also, I inform others (like a family member or a friend) that I'm meeting a stranger at this place, at this time...I'm not thinking that anything unpleasant will happen, but at least someone knows where I am.

I don't buy or sell on Craig's List, but if I ever do I'll follow the safety precautions listed here. Public meeting places and/or telling someone where you'll be is the best bet.

I have used Craigslist but we always meet in public, I always take my husband, and he is always armed. I do remember reading this very disturbing news story recently about a family being held at gun point in their home by a "buyer" from craigslist for jewelry. That story suggested not just meeting in public, but in your local police station's parking lot.
