Default Dealing With FEMA

We have had a couple of floods this year and a lot of people have lost quite a bit. My family was lucky enough that we didn't have much lost except for the garden and our bridge washed out. But when people have called FEMA for help, they have just received a portion of what they have lost.

Someone suggested they should have had flood insurance but they weren't in the flood plain and they wouldn't sell it to them. It's a shame that an agency holds out hope and then yanks it away.

It certainly is a shame. It's just another in a long list of examples of how the government doesn't really know what it's doing. All that red tape just confuses things.

I've been around a long time and I've seen a lot. I haven't seen a government program in a looooong time that did what it said it would do unless it was made to by a higher up. Flood insurance is so espensive I'm surprised people can even afford it. I can barely keep up with health, auto, home, dental, well... you get the idea.

I learned a long time ago not to depend too much on the government. If my house got flooded, I'm prepared to deal with it myself. Asking any higher ups is just a big waste of time.

This is interesting. There was massive flooding in the county north of my parent's home a year or two ago. The flooding in their area wasn't as bad. FEMA required my parents to get flood insurance. The clincher is that my parents live on a hill that has never flooded and won't ever flood unless there is one of Biblical proportions. There is just no way to figure out the reasoning of the government.

I have observed that when you are dealing with the government, there is only black and white and everyone falls into these two colors only.

Boy isn't that the truth. I have a friend who lost the whole lower level of her house and they are just now getting ready to put the sheet rock back in it. It's a shame that we pay taxes and pay taxes yet we never see any help when we need it. I think New Orleans is seeing the same thing.

That's terrible! I can't believe what so many of you have went through and my heart goes out to you and your families. I really hope things get better and people are treated the way they should be
