We see so many people on street corners these days. There is one guy that I always try to give at least one or two dollars to. But he is collecting for a homeless shelter. I know he is legit because years ago when I was a cab driver I took people to that shelter. Most of the others I ignore. There is a lot of help out there. I don`t want to give money to someone who is just going to buy booze or drugs. I used to see a homeless man at the doctors office where my kids went. I always gave him change and a cigarette.

A lot of times I'll give them a gift certificate for a meal at a local diner I go to all of the time. They could trade the certificate for booze but it's a lot more unlikely than if you just give them money.
