Default Have you given up luxuries?

We gave up cable TV, now we just use Netflix (yay they raised the price). Have any of you given up a luxury recently due to the economy?

Nope, not yet. I mean we do go out to eat a lot less but that is about it. We still have cable TV and high speed internet. We all still have our cell phones too. Those are the biggest bills not including the mortgage.

Yep, well we never went out to eat much but now we don't do it at all. We got Netflix and are dropping our service there (thanks to the price increase!), and we have pre-paid cellphones now.

Yes, we have. I cancelled our cable, we eat out less often, we don't buy new clothing but shop at Goodwill now and we have been trying to save money on our energy costs. We don't drive as much as we did either. We usually try to share rides or catch a bus if we have to. I wish they would bring back trains. It would help us out a lot.

Yes, we have too. We have even stopped going to the movies. I did take the kids to the "Harry Potter" premier but that's the first movie we've gone out for in some time. We also cook at home more and try to use up all leftovers.

There are a lot of things we have given up. We have stopped buying so much meat and now use vegetarian options. Not because we like them, but because we just can't afford to buy the meat. When we do, I try to stretch it out in stews and soups when at all possible.

I hear you on that one. I make a lot of stews now and I never used to. I make bags of potatoes and beans go a lot further as well. Saves us money but also causes everyone to get more gas, lol.
