Default Hospital bill

I got a letter in the mail saying I never paid a bill from almost five years ago and asked that they resend it since the only paper I have says they are turning it over to collections to dock my taxes. The man said he could not send me anything. Is this legal?

Well I would think that if they say you have a bill that still needs to be paid they should have a copy of it to send to you! If they couldn't send me one then I wouldn't pay it until they do. I would want to see what it was to be sure I even owe it after all that time.

You just got a letter? No statement with it, just a letter? Sounds fishy to me and I wouldn't pay it and would tell them so unless they send me a copy of the old bill so I could check it over.

I'm with the rest on this one. If I only got a letter stating that I owed the bill, I would certainly expect them to send me a copy of it before I paid it. Otherwise, they could just forget it.

If they have already sent it to a collection agency the bill has been transferred and so they can not legally send you anything. (I think.) Check with the agency to see what they can do.

Well they said they were getting 'ready' to send it over to a collection agency so they should still have a copy of the bill. After all they have to have something to send to the agency? So why couldn't they send you a copy? Doesn't make sense.

Legal? No! You don't have to pay it if they cannot provide a bill. They have to send you a bill as soon as you ask. Do not pay this without seeing a copy.

I can not believe how shady the world has become. So much hate, violence and dishonestly. What happened to the days when you did not have to lock and alarm your home & car.

I would demand to see an itemized bill before I would even discuss it with them. Take it to a lawyer even if it costs you a bit to do so. There are so many scams out there these days, you never know if something is legit or not.
