Default owed debt

A friend of mine dated a guy for a while, her mom had passed and he offered to go back with his then girlfriend for the mothers funeral arrangements. Now the guy who has been her ex for a few years wants her to pay for the plane ticket he bought for himself. Is that owed debt?

I would say definitely not. He made the decision to travel for the funeral. I am sure he would be laughed out of small claims court with that!

That sounds like a horrible reason to sue a person. I could understand if maybe it was a couples vacation they had planned to split in half and she didn't, but otherwise under these circumstances that is just plan nuts!

That sounds like an idiot ex if you ask me. Who in their right mind would do something like that. It seems very inconsiderate considering the circumstances and it was his choice to go right?

I would say he doesn't have much of a legal leg to stand on unless he has a written document that is signed by her stating that she will pay for his ticket.

How long ago was this trip? You said a few years? There is a statuette of limitations of stuff like that. I agree with NotTheMaid...if they did not have a contract for him to be reimbursed, then it should be an easy case.

No. If there was no verbal or written contract between the two, there isn't much of a basis for the suit. I would get a lawyer though to settle things. It seems you can't do anything without a lawyer these days.

He's lost his mind if he thinks he can make her pay for the ticket. He offered of his own free will, to go with her to the funeral. I agree with Sue, if there wasn't a contract, he can't do anything.
