Default Reduced lunches

Have you ever checked into getting help for school lunches for your kids at school? I can’t believe the price of a lunch these days. Its $2.00 for a lunch in the high school and it isn’t even that good. I work with a lady that has 3 kids – that is $6 a day for lunches. She was able to qualify for help (reduced lunch prices) because her hubby is off work. She is only paying .25 cents now a lunch. If they can allow people to pay a quarter if you need help why are the rest of us paying $2 – I think that they are way overpriced?

At our school all students have to fill out an income paper. You don't have to get to specific but they use those to find out if you qualify. If they think that you do then they send you the letter about reduced lunches.

Same here in our school district, it's a paper that gets sent home with the kids at the end of the school year (for the next year). I think its a wonderful program, for some kids it might be the only meal they get. They also offer free or reduced price breakfast too.

Same here happymom - they have both breakfast and lunch at our schools too. I think a lot of the kids need these meals, they would not be eating at school if they were not free or reduced.

These are just elementary prices in our area and I am wondering if we should just pack all lunches for when the time comes. I know some schools around here are higher, thats just insane. I guess you can not have extra milk at breakfast either.

Breakfast
Elementary $.85 per day ($4.25 weekly)
Reduced $.30 per day ($1.50 weekly)
Adults $1.50 per day ($7.50 weekly

Lunch
Elementary $1.75 per day ($8.75 weekly)
Reduced $.40 per day ($2.00 weekly)
Adults $3.00 per day ($15.00 weekly)
Extra milk $.65

$2.00 sounds about right but it was about a buck 50 when I was still in school. I would have thought it went up higher by now. Is this east or west coast prices?

I actually thought it was higher than that, but the majority of kids in school here qualify for the reduced program. I am glad they have the program it helps to feed a lot of kids.
