Default Splitting the cost of vacaction

If you were planning a weekend with another 2 families how would you split the bill? They are renting a suite that holds 12 people – the first family is 6 people and the second 2 families are 3 people each. It’s $1200 for 2 nights and all tickets (breakfast included but no other meals). Would you split it by 3 – since its 3 families or by person? I don’t want to be petty but I’m thinking by person… After all the $1200 includes tickets into the water park for 3 days per person…. Thoughts?

We tend to do family get together when we vacation since we are both somewhat close between 2 state lines. Most times when we go out to eat there is always a bicker issue between us over who pays.

This is not about the meals though - we each all pay for our own families meals. I'm wondering more about the cost of the room - it's a suite. I have not decided if we are going to go or not - not sure if I want to be cooped up in 1 suite with 2 other families.

Sounds like if you split it by person you will be paying $300 or $400 if you split it by family. Will it cause hard feelings if you split it by person? If so - then for $100 more I'd go by family and save people's feelings from being hurt.
