Default tracking

I was wondering-- what are some of the ways that people track their spending? I've used an envelope system, a notebook system, and a computer entry system. I'm trying to get back to budgeting and was wondering if anyone had any other systems they used.

LOL about the envelope system. I thought I was the only one who has done that! The only thing that works for us right now is paying the bills and then seeing what's left over. I'm trying to learn how to budget better.

I've tried the envelopes, too, (big Dave Ramsey fan here!), but I found that I could screw up any system I tried if I wanted to. I really had to work on discipline, then things started to get better.

How about the spreadsheet on the computer? I've used it but I think it's rather hard to sit down and do. I usually do a notebook with a different page for each category.

I like using the excel sheet on the computer as well. I do a different sheet for each month and it allows me to not have to enter in the budget again every month. Also, it automatically adds and subtracts which is nice. Thanks for all the ideas, everyone!

What do you mean by tracking system? You mean by writing down every penny that you spend? What is the envelope system?
