My husband and I have a method of doing bills and we've always done it this way. I make sure I have the bills that need to be paid first clipped up for him for the month. Then he pays the bills in that order. Does your family have a system?
I pay the bills - I am the one that pretty much handles the finances. It just works better that way, I'm much more organized. I pay almost everything online, so I set the bills at the computer desk. I almost always pay them as soon as they come in.
I handle all that myself and I too pay a lot of them on line now or set it up with my bank for auto bill pay, which is nice if you have a certain amount coming in each month and can time it all right.
Both of us but some bills tend to float so we never over spend on the extra things we buy to treat ourselves. The only thing that happens that messes us up is a surprise bill. This month it was a plumbing issue.
I pay all of the bills. My husband doesn't use a computer and most the bills we pay can be done online. Of course now he wants to know why we are broke. You should have seen his face when I showed him the school supply receipts.
We do them together, we find that we do better when we are involved in the bills together. So we write the budget and do all the bill paying together every Thursday evening.
I take care of all that. My husband stays out of the finances. He travels a lot and isn't always here to know what's going on, so it's better if I do it.
