Why do they believe? The idea behind money really amazes me. Money has no real and functional values, it has just symbolic (nominal) values. So, why do people believe in money? Why are they willing to exchange their precious things with some sheets of useless paper?

They believe in it because it is our tender. It is what the Government has deemed to be worth something. It is what we make for our hard work.

I think I know where you're going with this Meeva. I feel the same way. The only thing that money really does in my opinion is divide people. There is no reason why everyone on this planet can't barter and trade. Even in this day and age.

Yeah I never got chances to experience they days when people barter and trade. It must be great to go to the market and you don't need to bring money at all.

I've wondered that, too. I suppose it is because they learn from childhood that it can be used to get what they want. That creates the illusion that it has "real" value. What they are not taught is that the illusion of value can crash. If it does, they don't realize that they end up with nothing more than paper and ink that is worth nothing more than a piece of typing paper.

I am pretty sure that many people believe that money is magical and you have to have lots of it or you will melt like the wicked witch in the Wizard of OZ.

We have witnessed money of different currencies lost its value. Do you think it's better to invest money in gold than to keep it in your savings account?

I don't know, but it is very sad. I mean, life shouldn't have to revolve around money like it does. It freaks me out that people would do anything for money, including hurt others or even kill them. Personally, I don't want money as much as I want to just be happy and live a good life.

Money is how we get what we want, so it become everything to us. That's all I can think of.

That's the way I am, too. It really doesn't take that much money to live a good life and be happy, but people seem to think if they don't have a house as good or better than their neighbor's and a lot of things, they can't be happy. It's sad that people chase money their entire lives and end up with things and not much else.
