It's getting to be that time of year. Fleas are starting to come out and bother the cats and dogs our our household. What can I use that's an alternative to the spot on protection they sell. I've heard a lot of horror stories about pets convulsing and dying on that stuff and I don't want that to happen to mine.

For dogs and horses I have seen garlic pills that you add to their food. I have not used it, but the testimonials in the pet supply catalog have been talking it up for years.
