"Green" Cleaning I've been browsing the new "green" cleaning products on the market isles. Some of the prices are outrageous. How is one to know if the product is worth the purchase? Who uses these products and could offer advice on what product actually works?

I find that I have the same questions as far as what actually is or isn't green. I always wonder if the product is just using 'green' as a marketing label. Any thoughts?

Sleepy, I was checking on some that I saw at Target last week. One that claimed to be "Green" had the exact chemicals in it that one of the bottles that said "toxic" on it does. Now what is the difference and why would that one be green and the other be toxic. I'm shocked to say the least. Is this legal? I put in a letter to the company!

I believe that if you want to clean green, then you should just use the natural products that you already have in your house. You can use vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice--they are all natural products and I am sure you have them in your house already.

I was just going to say the same thing, those are all I use for cleaning, too. If you can eat it or drink it, then it is good enough to clean with.

I've used vinegar and water to do just about anything at my house. It does wonders for animal smells and it is also great to use with alcohol. Use them together to clean mirrors and such.

It's really neat to hear about using natural products that are around your house-- I never learned any tricks though. FLeur, Izzy, what types of things do you make? My mom always swore by vinegar, water and newspapers for mirrors and windows, but I can never get it to work.

Okay so we can say vinegar is good and I believe baking soda would be as well. This will sound a bit odd but I use coke to clean our toilets. What else can we decide is good cleaning power? Great idea to stay away from store bought then. Thanks!

I don't even bother with those. I use vinegar and baking soda throughout my house. Baking soda to scrub, mixed with vinegar to clean the toilet, vinegar to clean the floors, windows, hard surfaces.
