Default Green lightbulbs!

Do you have ecological (low-energy consumption) light bulbs in your home? We have them for more than 10 years and I can tell you our electricity bills are the same, bulbs don't help at all with savings! Just a big scam!!!

We have switched over. I think this is probably the easiest thing in the world for people to do and why anyone would still use standard light-bulbs is beyond me. They give off the same light, the last longer, and I do believe they save money in electric costs (maybe you should check and see where else your using extra power. )

Lightbulb

I have been using the low light floresent blubs for a couple of years now. It is amazing how little wattage they actually use compared to the brightness of the bulbs. For instance a 70 watt bulb, only uses 13 watts in power and is just as bright. We actually use them in our ceiling fans and in the dining room chanelier. They are not unattractive, they just look a little different.

I also use them in my bathroom over the mirror. They fit in about any socket that a regular light bulb would fit. In addition to saving energy, they definitely last a lot longer. I hardly ever have to replace a light bulb anymore, compared to having to replace them once or twice a year. So yes, I am happy with mine.

Actually those bulbs don't give off the same light. Light is more white and refresh rate is much lower than in regular ones. This is especially tiring for the eyes and the brain. This is not a joke, just read about it on the net.

I know this is an old thread but i have been doing some research on these. They may use less energy but they contain Mercury which is not a problem...until somebody drops one! I am not swapping over since I have a small child in the house.

That's the very reason I haven't switched over, too. As long as there are toxic chemicals in the bulb, it's not coming into my house.

I didn't know that before, we have switched over most of our bulbs. My husband thinks it's working. I am doing so many other things so I can't say that that's the reason.

I really haven't noticed that much of a savings on eletric bills, but I still highly advise everyone to buy long life bulbs, for the simple fact that you will save a lot of money in the long run, since you won't be out buying new light bulbs anywhere near as often.

I've noticed huge savings on bills-- my bill was only $24 for electricity last month! There is mercury, but the amount is minimal and only a problem if the bulbs break. I'd rather do a better job with energy than worry about the mercury.
