Default Green Roofs?

Has anyone heard of the new trend of having "green roofs"? People are turning their roofs into gardens/lawns and "giving back" the patch of land that they took to build to the environment! Would you take on such a project?

No, I don't think I would. It would be very hard to keep it from leaking and once it did start, you would have a very hard time trying to repair it.

I saw a couple of pictures in a magazine of this, but I really don't understand how it works. I think it's a neat idea, but like Hitherehowareu said, it sounds like the integrity of the roof may be compromised by doing this. I think I'll wait until it's been around a while and the kinks have been worked out before considering it.

I've seen it done before, but not in person. I was watching a show about it. Mostly it seems to be in the city and they claim it can help cool down the city area as it is not attracting heat.

I believe you have to re-enforce your roof to have it done, or have the house designed for that.
