Default Green Thinking

What is the greenest thing you do? How do you teach your children to be more green and conserve energy and things? I want to teach my children right.

I teach my children to conserve water when bathing and brushing teeth, they recycle and they do no litter. I think there is more, but those are just off the top of my head.

I have a thing about leaving lights blazing when nobody is in the room! My kids are pretty good about turning them off now. They also like to recycle and they collect cans and things from elderly neighbors for us to dispose of.

I've got them pretty well trained on recycling. The other day there was a plastic container in the trash bin, and my oldest pulled it out and pointed out that there was the triangle symbol on the bottom.

My kids are still fairly young, so it is still a learning curve. But he knows that plastic needs recycling, glass does too, cardboard, etc.

We have been recycling for three years now, so everyone in the family is geared in to this. My kids also know that when we are shopping for anything, we avoid buying things made of plastic if at all possible.

The simple and small things like turning off the light before leaving the room, close the tap while brushing teeth, not letting the computer on when not using it for a long time and the like are the easiest to teach the children about.

I agree, I also think that them growing up with it will make it almost second nature. It is easier to teach my kids than my grandmother.

Yes, start with the simple and small things as mentioned above. And I agree with Moongirl also. It reminds me of the old adage: it is never easy to teach an old dog a new trick.

We have laws here for recycling and if you break them, they tag your garbage. Well, after 3 tags, they fine you. I called them and asked them if they could teach me an easier way to get them to recycle, I am all ears. They leave me alone now.
