How do you like the new light bulbs? You know the ones I mean, those that save power. Here in the UK it's illegal for shops to sell the old fashioned light bulbs but although these energy saving bulbs are better than they used to be, they are still a lot dimmer than a good old fashioned 100 watt bulb, don't you think?

I thought the dimming was just me! For the longest time I thought I was losing my mind, well that's one good thing to know but I am confused, why is it illegal?

It's an EU Directive leeti. Because we are a member of the European Union, we are bound by laws made in Brussels and this was one that was passed some time ago, so shops cannot sell the old fashioned bulbs any more.

For me,the new bulbs are dim when I first turn them on, but then gradually pick up light as time goes by. It was kind of annoying at first, but then you get used to it.

I didn't like the new bulbs at first because the light itself is different than the older bulbs. It seems dimmer, too. Now that I've been using them for a while, I've gotten used to it.

I do not mind them. For some reason though the front porch light will flicker with them in it, but not when I use regular bulbs. I'm not sure if it has something to do with that it uses a light sensor to come on and off or not. But the bulbs are the same wattage.

It's just like anything else that's new I suppose, it takes awhile to get used to them. If they save me money, I'll learn to like them.

My biggest issue right now seems to be finding great prices on bulbs and then getting them and not being able to use them. In our home some switches are dimmers and some are not, the dimmers end up not working with the non-dims which is a total pain.

I love them. I think they're so amazing. I am a huge fan of anything that saves the Earth. I think it was such a great idea and I'm glad so many people are getting involved in this

I'm not fond of them at all. They have a bit of mercury in them. Have you read the disposal method? If they break in your house you are supposed to remove all children and pets and use a vacuum cleaner to get up all of the shards and mercury. So what happens when the mercury is exhausted into the air from the vacuum cleaner bag?
