Default Keeping Animals Out Of Open Compost Bin

Is there any way to keep animals from raiding my compost bin when we put vegetable and fruit scraps out? Every time I take something to the bin, I look out when it starts to get dark and there are racoons or deer feeding from the bin. I can't get enough compost because they keep taking my scraps.

What I do is cover any food I put in. Either I will dig a whole in the compost and put it in and cover it, or I will toss it on top and then toss dirt or yard clippings over it. My worm composter I put news papers on top.

That's a good idea, Jason. I usually try to toss mine when I put anything new in it whether it's food scraps or newspaper. I also stir it up when I put in the grass from the lawn mowing.
