Default Making Soap

I have thought about trying to make soap for my family but I don't know if it would be economical or if it would cost more by the time I got all of the ingredients. The grease or oil would cost quite a bit by the time I got enough to make soap out of. Has anyone ever made soap before?? Is it cost effective to do so or are you doing just as well to buy soap.

We went to a local Pumpkin Festival last year and they had a couple who were making lye soap and they certainly made it look easy. I'm not sure about the cost of the supplies. You know our ancestors used waste fat, fat from the pig they slaughtered to make into lard and some to use for soap.

I'm a saponifier and making your own soap is not less expensive than buying soap. I make soap, lotions, lip balms, and liquid soap. The process is easy but the ingredients aren't cheap unless you start making in bulk. I sell some at craft fairs and also have a really long gift list of family, friends and my husband's business acquaintances so they each get a gift basket of soaps and lotions.
