Default Is this recyclable?

Since we recycle, the kids and hubby seem to think that everything is able to go in that bin. Sometimes I think that it's because it's closer than the garbage. They put frozen juice cans and straws in the recycle bin, are those even recyclable?

I am always wondering what goes in the recycle bin. I put everything that is plastic there. I just found out that it was best not to put the cap back on the milk jugs or juice bottles because they would discard them. It has something to do with the type of plastic of the cap. I don't really know if it is real though.

The one that worries me a bit is the papers. I don't have time to take the plastic window of the envelopes that we receive. I do put the envelopes in the recycle bin and hope that I am doing the right thing.

I only put plastic items in the recycle bin that have the little triangle symbol in it. I also recycle plastic bags, but I keep them all together, as there's a special receptacle for them at the dump.

I was also going to suggest looking for the triangle symbol on the bottom. The number inside of that symbol will determine whether you're area takes it or not. I think my area takes recyclables 2-5.
