Default Strawless Day

I went to a local fast food restaurant last Friday, and I found out that Friday is a 'Strawless Day', meaning they do not give drinking straws during Fridays. Such move is a part of their campaign regarding the less use of plastic. It's nice to see some business establishments show their support for environment protection...What other green campaigns have you noticed in your area?

Oh that is a neat idea. I have noticed that we have a ton of community gardens around here. I am pretty impressed with that considering this is not the best town in the world.

I hate to be the pessimist, but I wonder if they are doing anything more substantial than not giving out straws on Fridays. It's just too easy for companies to put on a front with something like that and be as far from "green" as they can be, especially when what they are doing is actually saving them money, even though it wouldn't be much.

We have many places in our area that are now using as much recycled products as possible, every time my kid sees the little R mark she freaks out and goes "That goes in the recycle bin".
