Default Wood Stove not green??

There was a notice in the paper telling everyone in our town that they may no longer use their wood burning stoves to heat their homes. They said it causes too much pollution. What do you think about that?

I guess I could understand if it was a big city. A lot of metropolitan areas have placed bans like that. Too bad though, your bill will go through the roof.

There are a lot of people who are starting to turn to alternative fuel sources for that very reason. We were thinking about installing a couple of wood stoves. I better check if that is legal here.

Why pollution? I can see if you are burning "green wood" (not green in a good way but green meaning not dried) it would be bad for the environment. Good dry wood does not send out pollution.

I don't see a problem with it. Thank goodness we don't live near any city and regulations. We love our wood stove and use it for our main heat during the winter. If we didn't we wouldn't be able to survive the bills.

I've never heard of anything like that before. What are they going to do about people who can't afford to pay a sky high heating bill?

I plan on over using my fireplace this winter. My first year with it, and I love fireplaces. One of the reasons why we got the house. A neighbor down the street uses a wood stove to help heat the house.

Growing up in NY we had a wood stove for the longest time. Had some fond memories making hot dogs on it and other things. May have to figure out how to get one in our house here.

I love wood stoves. My grandfather used to say that gathering wood for a wood stove warms you twice, once when you cut it and once when you burn it. LOL We live in the country too. I don't believe that they are detrimental to the environment.

I used to live in a valley and we experienced inversion during the winter where the air would be trapped in the valley. We would have days when we were allowed to burn and other days when we were not allowed to burn. Burning wood is not the most "green" method to heat your home but some wood stoves are definitely more efficient than others.

It looks like burning wood would be one of the greenest ways to go. If you use coal, electric or gas, all of those have emissions which would seem to me to be worse than wood smoke. But then I love wood smoke.
