Question Bathroom: paint or just gut it

Our main bathroom looks terrible. The floor is about to curl up and walk away on its own, I've removed most of the 70's wall paper and am about to patch up and paint... mildew and such.

What are the benefits of a little at a time vs. just tear it apart and hope I can get it all working again?

Well the floor I would tear up and put down tile. Not sure how bad your walls are. Walls can be a real pain to re-do. The mildew worries me a little. For some reason when I hear/see mildew I think mold and mold is bad.

There just isn't a lot of air-flow in the bathroom. So over time the mold/mildew has crept up walls and on the ceiling (mainly ceiling).

I have some Kilz for a primer after I finish cleaning, then do the paint. Hopefully that will work.

Some days I just get this savage urge to tear out everything and start over.
