Default Cleaning carpets?

I need to see about having my carpets cleaned. Is it worth purchasing a carpet cleaner and doing it myself or should I hire a company to do it? I have no experience with this at all.

I am a cleaner and personally I find it's just best to get the expert carpet cleaner's out and do it for you. I hired a carpet cleaner from the store and it took me such a long time to work out how to use it and it was pricey by the time I had to buy the chemical for it. I never clean clients carpets as I believe it's a specialised job that needs attention. I don't like the idea of the home brought cleaners either. They do a terrible job and it's just clever selling.

My new house isn't going to have that much carpet. The kids and husband tear it up too bad with the spilling of sodas, juice, coffee and food and then of course the pets with their dirty feet. I hate cleaning the carpets in the house we are in now because I can't ever get the dirt out no matter how much chemicals I put on the stains.

We only have 2 carpets in our house. The living room is hard wood floor with a carpet in the middle and my daughters bedroom. I agree it's a pain to shampoo the rugs, they just never look that clean!
If you can afford it, why not have it cleaned for you. You can always shampoo your own every couple of months and then do 1 good cleaning each year?

Resolve is a good thing to have and its always stocked up in my house. So far this is the only thing that works so well. We have carpets all over the place here and it does come in handy.

I agree with Cero. I have a steam cleaner though I surely don't want to drag it out each time we have an accident. I keep Resolve handy and I am partial to the Resolve heavy traffic. I even use the laundry pretreatment that has resolve in it!
