I am an idiot. I used sheets for drop cloths thinking they would catch the paint. I did not realize that the paint would bleed right through. Now I have ruined the carpet. I feel so stupid. What can you use for a drop cloth that doesn't bleed?

You are not an idiot, you just made a mistake. When you paint you need a canvas drop cloth of some kind. You can to go hardware stores or paint stores and get paint drop cloths.
