Default Flood Damage?

We have had our 2nd flash flood in our area in two and a half months. I myself wasn't affected but a lot of my friends were. Does anyone know what needs to be replaced in a house when a flood does damage. I know carpet and flooring but what else?

How far up the walls did the flood waters reach? I would say maybe the drywall needs replacing or at least a portion of the drywall. If the waters stayed for awhile, it could lead to rotting and mold formation behind your walls. Did you guys have flood insurance? The insurance company could send out an assessor if you guys have the insurance.

Aww that's horrible! We haven't had that much rain but we have had a wetter than normal spring and summer. Our garden appreciated it though! We have zucchini running out of our ears!

The water got up at least 4 foot in the house. The bad part was that no one in the area had flood insurance because they weren't eligible (according to the insurance agent-they weren't in the flood plain). There was also two deaths due to the flooding. One 72 year old woman's trailer was washed away with her in it and it was destroyed when it hit a bridge throwing her into the water. It took two days for them to find her body. Another 53 year old woman who just lost her husband was holding to a fence when the water washed the fence down and she was submerged and died. I feel so bad for both families that they lost their loved ones this way. So many people were in worse shape financially than my friend who can replace everything she and her husband lost.

That's terrible. Those women and their families are in my thoughts.

I imagine whatever isn't replaced is going to have to be sealed; mold is hard to prevent when you've got that much water damage, and it can be very dangerous.

4 foot is a good amount, far more than I think I have seen in a very long time. I remember a friends dad telling me about the flood in 85 I think it was somewhere on the east coast if I am not mistaken. Far more floods.

Flood damage is terrible. I hate they weren't able to get help. They can check with FEMA if it was designated a disaster and get some help replacing things. If they decide to tear down and build again, I would suggest they put the house up higher than it was. Even if it wasn't in the flood plain, floods can happen.
