Default Need New Outlets

The old plug in outlets in our old house are worn out. They won't hold a plug in them and most of them will spark when you plug something into them. I know they need to be replaced but I don't know anything about electricity. Is it safe to change them if I get it explained to me. I plan on turning off everything at the circuit breaker box-will this be enough?

I would rather hire someone who really knows about changing electric sockets. I would never risk myself in doing things that could harm me for the sake of saving money.

It is not safe to do it by yourself even if it is explained to you. You may get the connections all wrong and ruin any equipment plugged in it or worst, burn down the house.

We had that problem in some of our rooms too. But we hired someone who knew how to do it. It`s just too dangerous to do it yourself. But that is just my opinion.

Get a pro and get it taken care of, sparks are not pretty things even though they may look like it. A friend had this issue and it cost him a pretty penny so shop around when looking for someone too.

I would suggest that you follow what the others have said. Even if you turn off your power, you can't be sure if the new electric outlet would be good when you turn on the power.

This is one home improvement I would not try to do yourself. Definitely call an electrician to help you out. Playing around with electricity is too dangerous and you might even burn down your house!

Thank you everyone! I appreciate your input. I have a nephew who is an electrician so I'm going to hire him to do the job along with hanging a ceiling fan. I'm not sure how to do either project so it's just easier to get him to do it.
