Default New (almost) everything

We are going to need to re-fi our place before we get into the work we want done.

Just an example of the smaller list:

- repaint 6 rooms (we are not painters)
- redo both kitchen and 2 bath floors (1 bath and one 1/2 bath)
- redo both baths (everything)
- back deck (is slowly dying)

I know nothing about how re-fi's work, and since we are buying the house from someone we know, we do not want to put them in any weird spot either. I need some advice from someone thats been there, help?

Not to be rude or anything, but what does one have to do with the other? re-financing is typically just re-doing the terms of your contract. More times than not, you're just extending the term of the contract, making your payments smaller.
