Default Not Much Of A Carpenter

I'm definitely not much of a carpenter like my father was. But for some reason my wife expects me to handle most of the repairing jobs around the house as if I'm the only handyman in town. Are you skilled with wood?

My hubby claims he isn't a carpenter either but he does pretty good getting some things done around the house. Nothing major now mind you but he gives it a good try and so far nothing has fallen on our heads.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a guy who backs out that easily but I'm just not talented for craftsmanship. I would be glad to see my stuff in the "has not fallen on our heads" category though.

When my brother was single, he wasn't the type who would hold a hammer and volunteer to do minor carpentry works, but when he got married and got a place of his own, I was a bit surprised at how his carpentry skills progressed.

My husband is skilled with anything in the house - he just doesn't always like to fix things. I refuse to pay someone else if he can do it. My dad is great too so he gets called on often.

My husband is affectionately referred to around here as the 95% man. He completes about 95% of what needs to be done. Most things he works on are "almost" finished. But he is very handy. Just yesterday he repaired my washer, saving us a major service bill.

I think women (especially wives) automatically think all men are or should be crafty or handy with things around the house. Heck, I am more handy around the house than most men I've ever know. Although, I have been blessed with a very smart son. Half the time he has to show his father how to do something (so don't feel bad). Keep at it, practice makes perfect!
