Default Removing dead space

In my sons room there is some dead space due to the way the roof slants. I believe we could take out part of the wall and create built in shelves to create more space for him. How can I turn that dead space in to something usable?

I think your idea is a fine one. What you need to do is find out if it is a load bearing wall. You can still use the dead space by removing drywall as long as you don't remove a load bearing beam.

There is tons of dead space in our home and we are waiting for an assignment to get put in place before we can decide what to do. We want to make sure any changes will increase the value of the house rather than decrease it.
