Default Stained toilet bowl

One of the toilets in our house has a badly stained bowl it looks like maybe rust? Any ideas on how I can get it off or at least lighten it?

Rubber gloves, a whole lotta bleach and sandpaper. Try to drain as much water as you can before you begin, then bleach it. If it is still stained then use a bit of super-fine wet'n'dry sandpaper.

We have that problem too. My husband recently used Lime away and a scrub pad. It did get it looking better. He wants to treat it again and see if more will come off. He let the Lime away sit for about 30 minutes. And use rubber gloves.

I've used Lime Away with great success in cleaning my toilets because of hard water stains. Just apply it and let it sit for a few minutes. If it's really bad, let it sit for a few hours or even overnight.

My husband did this to one of our toilets last year and the sand paper actually scratched the porcelain and made it absorb more of the iron that was causing the stains in the first place. My iron content is through the roof so maybe that's why the sandpaper was a problem, but now I have to buy a whole new toilet.

There's no way I would use nor recommend that someone use sandpaper or steel wool on anything that is covered with porcelain. It's way too abrassive. That's why toilet bowl cleaners have nylon bristles.
