Default Thinking Of A New Couch and Love Seat

I'm thinking of taking my tax refund this year and buying a new sofa and love seat. I have been wanting a leather set since we have cats and dogs in the house. Can someone tell me the pros and cons of having a leather set? I know there are some drawbacks but I would like to hear them before I make the decision.

You say you want to get a leather set with cats and dogs in the house? Well the Pro part would be that a good set is really nice and soft and comfy. The Con.....CATS. Unless your cats never get on or go near it (like they are outside cats) then you would be ok, but I don't think I would get leather if I had indoor cats.

A big Con is that leather is really cold in the winter and hot in the summer. My parents have leather recliners and I hate them. They are easy to clean but they are cold or hot all the time.

Lucky you Claudia! I would love a new couch, but I am terrified to spend that kind of money with two small kids. I would have to do like some older people do and put plastic on it! I don't know that I would go the leather route either with cats and dogs.

EmeliaDay-Do cats really scratch leather as well as cloth couches? The ones I have now are so scratched they look horrible. I want something that cats won't bother but I've never found anything like that yet.

I have always wanted leather furniture, but I wondered about the temperature and how comfortable they would be. They would be a long way off for us any with two small kids. Claudia-- I have seen what cats do to leather furniture, and it was not pretty.

If you have pets do not get leather unless all of your pets are declawed. That is the only bad thing I see about it, good wise you can think of easy clean up for most areas if you spill something on it. And did I mention how comfy nice leather is?

It is a personal choice really. Some people find leather offensive because it is animal skin and some don't like the smell.

Leather is easier to clean as you can wipe off spills which could alternatively soak into fabric before you can run to get some tissues. There are leather cleaning solutions available and it is fairly easy to maintain. But as u say u have pets in your home then its recommended not to have a leather couch..as pet can cause damage to it...

I agree that cats will scratch the furniture (even if they aren't scratchers, being new and smelling funny). The cats will ruin it. You also have the problem with the temperature of the furniture. The leather does get really hot in the summer.
